About The Blog

This blog is designed to accompany my post-graduate studies in Human Centred Design, Human Factors and Ergonomics at Brunel University, West London, UK.

Having graduated in June 2008, I was offered a job as a research assistant and designer at Brunel University working on a project supported by the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, The Ergonomics Society and hosted at the Design Museum. The exhibition is called Real World Design and it is due to launch on the 4th of November 2009. Updates of the progress of the project and the associated background ergonomics, design and human factors research can be found by visiting www.realworlddesign.org.

In parallel to this I am also studying towards an MPhil at Brunel University investigating Intrinsically Motivating Design, this research builds on my background as an BASI ISIA Nordic Ski Instructor and my undergraduate studies at Brunel, where I graduated with first class honours in Industrial Design. My undergraduate Industrial Design dissertation Insight which was exhibited at Made In Brunel in June 2008, investigated the human factors associated with a mobile phone based immersive learning concept. Through my MPhil I hope develop my understanding of how design can influence user motivation, confidence and satisfaction in the use of technology and how in turn technology can enable better, more frequent and more empowering communication.

I hope you enjoy the posts and its always good to hear from people so please feel free to leave comments or contact me directly.
